Sidney West was born and raised in The Bronx. Sidney attended St. Bonaventure University, obtaining her Bachelors in psychology with a minor in Sociology. She studied at Simmons University, earning her Master’s in Social Work and licensure after. Sidney is now attending Capella University, on her way to obtaining her PhD in Developmental Psych. During her undergrad, Sidney volunteered with Special Olympics of Cattaraugus County and had the opportunity to lead her own Special Olympics event on campus.
Sidney has spent 10+ years working in Child Welfare and counseling. Sidney has experience working with underprivileged and marginalized populations and families. Sidney’s experience working with underprivileged and marginalized populations has given her a deep understanding of these individuals and families unique challenges and barriers. This experience has shaped her perspective and approach to her current role as a Family and Student Specialist and fueled her passion for advocating for equity and social justice within the Child Welfare System, which she hopes to transfer to the education system. Sidney works as a Family and Student Specialist for PK-1st grade and with families across grade bands in elementary and middle school. In her free time, she likes to engulf herself in anything art-related or DIY, go to the beach, attend live concerts, and try new restaurants throughout the tri-state area.
